In recent years, more Saudi families have turned to recruiting from Ethiopia for domestic help, making the Ethiopian nationality one of the most commonly searched options for families looking for a capable domestic worker at a cost that fits their budget. But before you make your decision, you need the full picture: what genuinely sets Ethiopian domestic workers apart? What challenges might you face? And how do you choose a trustworthy Ethiopia recruitment office without paying more than you should?
In this comprehensive guide, we walk you through everything related to hiring Ethiopian workers — from the real advantages that suit each household's specific needs, to the criteria for choosing the right office, to the payment options that make the decision easier on your budget.
The Ethiopian nationality is today one of the most available and requested nationalities in the Saudi domestic worker recruitment market, thanks to the large number of registered workers with licensed offices, along with a recruitment cost that ranks among the lowest compared to nationalities such as the Philippines or Sri Lanka. This balance between availability and cost makes recruiting from Ethiopia a practical option for many families, whether it is their first recruitment experience or they are seeking an additional worker for a specific household need.
That said, the right decision should not be based on price alone, but on a genuine understanding of what an Ethiopian worker brings, and how well that matches your household's specific needs — which we cover in the next section.
Every household's needs are different, so here are the advantages of Ethiopian domestic workers broken down by the type of need, so you can judge how well they fit your specific situation.
Ethiopian domestic workers are known for their diligence and commitment to daily tasks, along with the ability to handle ongoing household work without complaint, making them a suitable choice for large homes or larger families that need daily cleaning, tidying, laundry, and ironing.
Many Ethiopian workers are known for learning quickly and adapting well to a family's instructions, along with a calm nature that helps when dealing with children. Families specifically looking for a nanny are advised to choose a worker with prior childcare experience using the filters available when browsing worker profiles.
The calm, cooperative nature that most Ethiopian workers share gives elderly family members a sense of comfort and reassurance, especially when choosing a worker with prior experience in this type of care, which may include help with medication schedules and following a daily routine.
Financially, the cost of recruiting from Ethiopia is among the lowest of the nationalities available in the Saudi market, making it a balanced option for families who want a capable domestic worker without adding extra strain to their budget, especially with the installment option covered later in this article.
Choosing the right Ethiopia recruitment office is just as important as choosing the worker herself. Here are the key criteria to consider:
Make sure the office is officially licensed and registered with the official entities responsible for regulating recruitment in the Kingdom, and that all procedures take place electronically through the approved official platforms, to protect both your rights and the worker's rights.
A trustworthy office discloses the full recruitment cost upfront with no hidden fees, and stays within the price ceiling set by the official entities for each nationality.
The broader an office's pool of workers, the better your chances of finding a profile that precisely matches your needs in terms of experience, age, and skills. You can browse dozens of Ethiopian worker profiles in one place through Ayady's Ethiopian workers page, which gathers verified profiles from multiple licensed offices at once.
Check previous clients' experiences with the office before signing a contract, as this gives you a real indication of service quality and how quickly they respond if an issue arises.
Recruitment procedures typically take up to 90 days from the payment of the recruitment cost and contract signing, according to the systems approved by the official entities. Ask the office clearly about the expected timeline before you begin.
Make sure there is genuine support after the worker arrives, whether to resolve early adjustment issues or to address any questions related to the contract.
If paying the full recruitment cost upfront would strain your budget, look for offices that offer an installment payment option — which we cover in detail in this article.
The price of recruiting from Ethiopia depends on several factors, most notably: the worker's experience level and specific skills, each office's policy and the service package it offers, plus additional fees such as the visa fee (around SR2,000) and the annual residency (iqama) renewal fee (around SR600). Per the figures set by the official entities, the approved price ceiling for recruiting an Ethiopian worker does not exceed SR5,900 excluding VAT, while the worker's monthly salary typically ranges between SR900 and SR1,200 depending on experience.

One of the most common challenges families face in the first few weeks is that an Ethiopian worker's native language is Amharic, and she may arrive without fluency in Arabic or English. That said, most workers show a good ability to quickly pick up the basics through daily interaction. To ease this transition, it helps to choose a worker with prior experience working in homes in the region if available, use simple language and clear gestures at first, and allow a reasonable adjustment period before judging her performance.
One of the most common mistakes when hiring Ethiopian workers is signing with the first office you contact without comparing options. Prices and service packages vary noticeably from one office to another, and licensed offices include a variety of options such as Osos Al-Injaz, Al-Da'era Recruitment Company, Hudood Al-Afkar Recruitment, Smart Resources Recruitment Office, and Tawassut Recruitment, among other approved offices whose prices and services you can compare in one place via Ayady's Ethiopia recruitment offices page, before making your final decision.
Instead of contacting multiple offices individually to ask about prices and available workers, you can now compare several licensed offices from one place, and review worker profiles, prices, and payment terms side by side — saving you significant time and effort, and giving you a clearer view before making your decision.
